IT ALL STARTS WITH A QUESTION…

Chances are over the course of your child’s lifetime, they will be asked a version of this question 100 times:

“What are you going to do with the rest of your life?”

While this question is entertaining for very young people, it can be stressful even for young teenagers.

According to a national study, teenagers today are asking more of themselves than teenagers of the past when it comes to their careers. They want work that is purposeful and has meaning and they want to make an impact on the world. Such high aspirations bring along with them added stress mixed in to the day to day anxiety of academics, their social lives and parental pressures. In other words, it’s a little tougher to be a teenager now than it has been in the past.

The same question for students also causes a great amount of stress for adults. You don’t want to see your child struggle in the “real world” or still live at home years after they’ve taken their last class – whether it be high school, college, technical school or grad school.

As parents and teachers make “life after school” more of a priority, teens can stress over this decision a lot more than adults might think.  If adults don’t get an answer, the question then is “how do I help my child figure out what they want to do with their lives?”

THE ANSWER CAN BE FOUND IN THE DREAM JOB BLUEPRINT.

The Dream Job Blueprint is a method eight years in the making and comes in two distinct parts.

First, instead of taking personality tests or going through an entire psychiatric examination, the Blueprint comes at deciding on a career through an organic process that is unique to everyone.  The end result is a short list of careers that stimulate the subject intellectually, enable them physically and fulfill them emotionally or spiritually.

Second, once these careers are known, the plan then takes the individual through the process of narrowing those careers to a select few and then laying out a plan of how to get from where they are to each of the careers they want.

The process also has two extremely attractive byproducts for teachers and parents.

BETTER CHANCE GRADES GO UP

By going through the program, selecting a target career and being motivated to achieve that career, students are more likely to see how their academic studies help them understand more about that discipline. They can then use their education as a tool to get where they want to go and not view it (as most do) as an obstacle to get around. Studies have also shown that when a student has a purpose in learning something, the material is retained at a much higher rate.

NOT JUST ONE SOLUTION

By selecting several careers through this process, students not only have one great career goal they would like to accomplish, but they also have several backup options in case the first one doesn’t pan out they way they want to.  This way they are not putting all of their eggs in one basket and starting from scratch if the end goal seemingly can’t be achieved. Even better, students can go back through the blueprint at any time in their career to see how their career goals have changed, if at all.

The benefits to going through the Blueprint go far beyond simply helping students find clarity in life.

GREAT FOR HIGH ACHIEVERS…

No high achieving student ever gets a dream job just for having a diploma, a perfect grade point average and numerous academic awards.  Employers want to see drive and passion past the fact that a graduate has shown that they can follow directions well to get a perfect grade.  The Blueprint can help high achievers focus their greatest dreams into career aspirations and show them how their education works as a tool to achieve those dreams.

…AND AT-RISK STUDENTS

Seven percent of all high school students drop out each year in the United States.  Most of them drop out because they have lost interest or they see that life without school has a much greater benefit than life with an education.  The Blueprint asks students very real questions as to what each student – on an individual level – wants to do with their lives and then shows them how staying in school gives them the best chance to realize their aspirations.

SO HOW CAN I GET THE BLUEPRINT?

The program can be delivered in a number of different ways – either at home through a parent, at a location through a workshop or through one-on-one coaching with a Dream Job Blueprint Certified Coach.

ONLINE CLASS

The Dream Job Blueprint online course has 12 modules and the student is free to move through the class as fast or as slow as they want to – though we suggest that slower is often better.  Click here to learn more about the courseAVAILABLE MARCH 5, 2018.

WEBINARS/WORKSHOPS

Once a month, we put on a 90 minute webinar that goes through the basics of the course, but doesn’t go into a great deal of depth.  It’s a great stepping stone into the online course if parents want to take the next step.

COACHING

Both one-on-one coaching and group coaching are available.  Packages are available from just one “gutcheck” meeting to year-round one-on-one coaching which includes academic coaching.  All coaching sessions are done by a Dream Job Blueprint Certified coach.  Click here to see details of our coaching offerings.

SPEAKING

The founder of The Dream Job Factory, Bill Priestley, can come to your school, church or organization and give a 2-hour workshop which can be used as a fundraiser.  Bill can also speak to larger groups including school assemblies, associations and PTA groups.  For more information on those opportunities, click here.
